No.1 Hind Stile, Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire

There’s plenty of reasons to visit the heart of England – just south of Leicestershire, and not far from Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire is the county of Spires and Squires. Steeped in history, there’s plenty to see and visit – whether you are in the area for an interesting leisure and heritage trip, or just passing through with family, friends, or for business.

Higham Ferrers is in a great location where the A6 and the A45 cross, and either way, not far from the M1 or A1, so we’re very easy to find. When you get here on the modern road network, the medieval town in the centre reflects history going back almost 900 years with many heritage and listed buildings that are available for you to visit. And that’s just this town – within a few miles, there are houses and gardens to visit, many of which you’ll never see the like.

Bluebells and Wisteria at Coton Manor, just 21 miles from Higham Ferrers

The garden, nursery and café at Coton Manor is open for the summer starting on March 28th, 2023, and nearby, Holdenby House, Kelmarsh Hall, Cottesbrooke Hall and Castle Ashby are all open for visits during the summer months. Please check websites for opening dates and times.

With Zoom calls being regularly used all over the world since lockdown, local businesses are bringing their people together electronically, rather than in person. Because of the centralised location of this area of Northamptonshire, many large companies are based here for distribution and central offices. It may be that face to face meetings are making a comeback, and if you know of anyone who needs a luxury bed for the night with a great cooked breakfast, please do tell them about No.1 Hind Stile!

Car Parking for guests is available free of charge, on the Market Square from 4.30 p.m. until 10.00 a.m. each day and No.1 Hind Stile is just a 2 minute walk away from the Square.

Mistletoe Cottage, Kinnersley, Herefordshire

We’ve welcomed many families to Mistletoe Cottage over the past four years, and many of those who visit time and again. We’re so pleased that our guests enjoy the experience of staying in the Cottage, but also those who travel out and about in one of the most beautiful counties of England.

There’s so much to do – indoor and outdoor – that we have added many of the attractions to our website: www.mistletoecottagekinnersley.co.uk

Just along the River Wye, we’ve discovered canoeing from Hay on Wye back to the Toll Bridge at Whitney on Wye. You can check in at Whitney, or at Hay, and then paddle back to Whitney for lunch (or something stronger!)

Whitney Bridge was originally built in 1774 and is now only one of eight toll bridges left in England. Their most recent addition is The Bridge Eatery – overlooking the river, you can see rowers trying their skills as well as observing nature – birds, animals or plants. It is a really peaceful spot to participate or relax in the day. https://www.whitneybridge.com/eatery

Electric Vehicle Charging Point (EVCP)

There are now more new electric cars being sold than diesel models, which is great for the environment. But, as we are still in the infancy of finding charging points and checking that these new cars can get from A to B as required, there is a need to provide more and more points.

We recognise that Mistletoe Cottage is located in the heart of the rural countryside, and we want to provide a service to our guests who arrive in an electric powered vehicle.

From Spring 2023, we will have our own Podpoint EVCP in the driveway at Mistletoe Cottage for guests to charge up before they explore the locality, or head for home. It’s easy to use – the driver loads the app on to their phone and pays for the electricity they have used direct to the electricity provider. Easy to use – easy to pay for, and at Mistletoe Cottage – a real asset!

More information is available on our website and you can enquire about booking a stay via the website, or by calling on the phone – 01933 314006 and 07749 489271.
